About 12 years ago, when my husband (then boyfriend) and I went to a restaurant and ordered nachos, they asked if we’d like the guacamole with it. We both had no idea what it was, so we asked the waiter. His response was “Ah, it’s green stuff…you probably won’t like it”, so we stayed away from the guacamole. However, since then, we’ve decided that maybe this waiter was just a picky eater, and we’ve since added it to our nachos when we go out. What a great addition! If you’re ever not sure, don’t let your waiter talk you out of it!
I bought some avocados on sale the other week, not sure what I was going to do with them. Then it hit me! Guacamole! Perfect! I don’t think I’ve made this more than once before, and that was a long time ago. We really liked this recipe, the addition of the tomatoes was really good. I’m sorry for the bad picture, we were finishing off the guacamole with chips when I realized…I didn’t have a picture to share with you yet! So…that was the second last scoop of guacamole left from this batch. You get the idea.
Ingredients:
- 3 avocados – peeled, pitted, and mashed
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 roma (plum) tomatoes, diced
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 pinch ground cayenne pepper (optional)
Directions:
In a medium bowl, mash together the avocados, lime juice, and salt. Mix in onion, cilantro, tomatoes, and garlic. Stir in cayenne pepper. Refrigerate 1 hour for best flavor, or serve immediately.

Thanks Jeanine. I loooove guacamole and this one looks wonderful. Grey Cup party, here I come!
(BTW, I tried the gingersnaps yesterday. Wow. They are a hit and my non-GF friends will never be able to tell the difference. Thanks.)
Hi Iris! When is the Grey Cup?? lol I’m not into watching sports. We really liked this recipe though, you just have to make sure to buy your avocados earlier, so they have time to soften by when you want to use them.
Glad you enjoyed the Gingersnap cookies, they really are as good as regular ones, aren’t they?? ENJOY!
Jeanine..I learned to eat guacamole in Mexico and loved it! I haven’t ever made it, when I have a yearning for it I buy a small amount at the grocery store..hubby doesn’t eat it. But this recipe looks simple to make so I just might give it a try.
Guac rocks!!!
I have a serious obsession with avocados — I usually eat 1/2 of an avocado every day. I love that guacamole is so delish and high in “good, healthy” fat. Yum!
Betty, I wish I could go to Mexico so I could enjoy the guacamole there!
I’m sure it’d be easy to scale back this recipe as well, to a smaller serving. On day 2, it wasn’t discoloured at all yet, but can’t tell you day 3, it didn’t last that long.
Maureen, thanks for popping by! So, what else do you eat avocados in?
