"Gluten Free on a Shoestring" Book Review & Giveaway – Contest Closed
A while back I was contacted to see if I would be interested in reviewing a new cookbook, “Gluten Free on a Shoestring” by Nicole Hunn. I like cookbooks, and I like to see the new cookbooks that bloggers are coming out with, and as long as I could get a copy to giveaway to one lucky reader, I agreed to check it out. I like to page through a cookbook, read it, mark off some recipes to try, and make a few recipes before writing a review. “Gluten Free on Shoestring” is all about living gluten-free without breaking the … Continue reading
A Cookbook Review – The Cake Mix Doctor Bakes Gluten-Free
I’m sure that you’ve all heard of the Cake Mix Doctor. If you haven’t, her name is Anne Byrn, and she has created recipes to take those boxed cake mixes, and make them into great cookies, bars, cakes & Bundts. You use the cake mix as the base, and add in different ingredients, making it easier than “from scratch” baking. When I was contacted and asked if I would like to review The Cake Mix Doctor Bakes Gluten-Free and I was a little hesitant (with cake mixes being over $5 a piece, who wouldn’t be?). But, I like trying new … Continue reading
Udi’s Bread = fantastic Fluffy French Toast
After attending the Celiac Foundation’s gluten free Food Faire back in June, I blogged about Udi’s bread. Seriously, really, really good stuff. The fine folks at Udi’s read that post, and decided to send me a wonderful package of goodies. Seriously, it was like Christmas. SO GOOD! The package contained pizza crust, Double Chocolate muffins, a loaf of Whole Grain bread, and Lemon Struesel muffins. They asked if I could post a few recipes using these goodies in the recipes. I had contemplated using the muffins in recipes, but then was afraid those recipes would fail, and I would be … Continue reading
Bulk Barn’s Gluten Free Cornbread Mix – Review
If you haven’t been lately, you should check out your nearest Bulk Barn. A while back, a trip there revealed that they are now carrying a few gluten free mixes. Namely, Cinnamon Raisin bread, Cornbread and Brownies. I had to buy some to try, and then let you know what I thought of them. (yeah, I’m always thinking of you guys) First off, I don’t usually buy mixes. They usually contain nothing but starches, and are so overpriced, they aren’t worth it. THIS, however, I need to buy more of! It contains corn meal, potato starch and sorghum flour. You … Continue reading
Nature Path’s Organic Cereals – Review
A few months back (where does the time go??), I was contacted by the fine folks at Nature’s Path to see if I would be interested in trying their two new cereals. My answer, of course, was YES!! I find breakfast the hardest meal to make gluten-free, because I’m a cereal gal. I’ve never been into toast, eggs, fruit or yogurt for breakfast, I like to have a bowl of cereal. So, given the chance to try out a few new kinds of gluten-free cereals, was great with me! I received 2 boxes, one in the new Crunch Maple Sunrise … Continue reading
Our latest adventure at Montana’s Restaurant
When we go to Winnipeg, we will very often eat at Montana’s. The kids like it there, you can colour on the tables, the atmosphere is busy enough to keep the kids busy, and the food is great. We enjoyed going there before we had to worry about finding gluten-free items on their menu. But since having to order items gluten-free, I have relied on their (simple, photocopied) gluten-free menu. It may not have been much, but at least I knew what to expect. I knew which items I could order. Well, in our little city adventure yesterday, Abby said … Continue reading
